Flying Gabriel       catalog #009

The original bucket that inspired this design was made in Boston around 1800. I'm not certain if this is supposed to represent the angel Gabriel sounding his horn of alarm, or if the artist was attempting to illustrate the mythical god Mercury, patron god of merchants, and had problems differentiating between the two. Mercury firebuckets were a common design during the period. Regardless of the artist's intent, it's an excellent design.
